Our Federal Government Client is looking for a Midrange UNIX Technical Writer.

Overview of Proposed Services
Technical writer professionals articulate and document requirements specification and elicit high level requirements to capture business needs. An understanding of Digital ICT professional information technology, which includes knowledge specific to Midrange LINUX and UNIX Operating Systems such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Oracle Solaris, IBM AIX and platforms such as IBM Power PC, Oracle SPARC, vmWare, Openstack/Openshift. This role will be responsible for producing high-quality documentation that is appropriate for Enterprise Designers, Architects, Subject Matter Experts, System Engineers, Testers, Cyber Analysts and Change Management Stakeholders.

Key duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation that supports Midrange UNIXs projects and operations.
  • Working with subject matter experts to develop work instructions, fact sheets, Standard Operating Procedures, user guides, and quick reference guides.
  • Maintain version controls to ensure consistency, compliance, and accuracy of technical documentation and knowledge articles.
  • Experience in gathering information for and authoring technical and business process documentation relating to Midrange UNIX Standard Operating Environments and Platforms.
  • Selects, adopts, and adapts appropriate process definition and management methods, tools and techniques to deliver technical and business process documentation and specifications.
  • Create and maintain solution documents.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define tasks, resolve issues, solve problems and ensure effective and timely implementation of projects.
  • Peer and quality reviews of documents.
  • Review research, process models and documentation of other staff, providing guidance and feedback resolve or escalate issues as required and suggest alternative approaches and solutions.
  • Obtains input from, and agreement to technical and business process requirements from a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Resolve or escalate issues as required and suggest alternative approaches and solutions.

Primary Knowledge/Skills/Systems/Tools required for role include:
* BM Power PC,Oracle SPARC,Red Hat Enterprise Linux, IBM AIX, Red Hat OpenStack/OpenShift, Ansible Automation Platform & Ansible Tower, High Availability Operating System Clustering technologies.

Candidate Selection Criteria
The criteria that the Buyer will use to evaluate the Candidates in the Seller's Quotation comprise the following:

Mandatory Criteria

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft office products including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Visio.
  • Experience with creating detailed technical documentation, e.g. as-built documents, Disaster Recovery procedures, Technical Recovery Procedures, High Availability/Availability Management documentation, Operational handover documents, Support guides and Major Incident Report, Post Incident Review.
  • Experience in working collaboratively with networking, gateway, compute, storage, security engineers and architects to coordinate deployment and management of components
  • Experience in working with vendors and internal resources to ensure delivery of solutions meets requirements.


Weighted Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in the design and development of ICT Technical documentation including system design documentation, network diagrams and technical procedures.
  • An understanding of ICT Infrastructure, in particular Midrange UNIX & LINUX infrastructure.
  • Well-developed writing skills, with demonstrated ability to write in a clear and concise manner, and to convey information effectively to staff of different levels and with different information requirements.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills including interviewing, listening, collaboration, problem solving and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated design skills including the ability to produce well formatted documents and clear illustrations / diagrams.
  • Experience with production of web-based documentation, preferably with Microsoft SharePoint.

The proposed initial contract for this role is from 01 October 2024 to 30 September 2025 with up to a maximum of 24 months extension. Candidates must be located in Canberra and work from the Client's Canberra office for a minimum of 3 days per week.

Due to security clearance requirements for this role, candidates must be Australian citizens with active AGSVA NV1 Security Clearance.
