What is a Web Developer?

Web Developers design, create, produce and maintain websites using relevant software packages. They often work along side Graphic Designers to create websites that are visually appealing and serve a purpose to the end user. This might be to convey information, offer services or sell products online.

Web Developers generally fall into one of three categories:

  • Back End Developers who focus on the use of Hypertext Pre-processor (PHP), Java, .NET, Ruby on Rails, Node.js
  • Front End Developers who use JavaScript, Angular.JS, Hyper Text Mark-up Language (HTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), JQuery
  • CMS Developers who use programs such as Magento, Drupal, Umbraco and WordPress
